THE ORBITAL PERSPECTIVE

Everyone on Earth looks up. From the ground, space is an aspiration—a distant zenith. But once a spacecraft achieves orbit, the geometry inverts. To observe, to communicate, and to endure, a satellite must orient itself downward, locking onto the nadir.

nadir lab. adopts this inverted perspective. We are an independent research initiative and publication platform operating at the intersection of miniature spacecraft architecture (PocketQube 1p & CubeSat 1U), extreme-environment metallurgy, and orbital mechanics.

In non-technical language, nadir also denotes the deepest point. For us, depth is a methodology. Instead of viewing aerospace from the surface, we go down to the fundamentals: where structural alloys, thermal coatings, and crystalline lattices confront atomic oxygen, thermal cycling, and the hard vacuum of Low Earth Orbit. We document the physics, the materials, and the engineering of small things built for the infinite dark.

1. Single-Source-of-Truth Computational Architecture

Unlike static wiki pages whose numbers drift out of date when assumptions change, every numerical table in our encyclopedia and technical notes is generated at build time from the same verified TypeScript physics modules (lib/physics/) that power our interactive browser Lab tools.

2. Scope & Independence

Developed and maintained by nadir lab., the platform synthesises international mechanical standards (PocketQube Standard Issue 1, CubeSat Design Specification Rev. 14.1, ECSS-Q-ST-70 series, NASA GEVS) together with flight heritage from global university, amateur, and commercial picosatellite and nanosatellite programmes.

3. Static Resilience & Privacy

The entire platform compiles to a deterministic static export where 100% of engineering calculations run locally in your browser. Optional aggregate readership analytics (Google Analytics 4, governed by explicit user consent) and on-demand CelesTrak GP orbital element queries in the Orbit Tracker are transparently documented in our Governance & Privacy Policy.
